MONROVIA, September 29 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has reiterated that the Liberian Government under the leadership of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf remains committed to the One-China policy.

He said this is because the Liberian Government believes that the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the true representative of all Chinese people.

The Liberian Vice President made the statement Wednesday evening at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town at a program marking the 67th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Vice President Boakai told the gathering that as a nation and people, Liberia remains resolute in maximizing the objective of the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation, a platform which, he believes, will enhance interaction in diverse spheres.

The Vice President indicated that within the context of the reform of the United Nations Security Council, Liberia remains committed to the Ezulwini Consensus which seeks two permanent seats with veto rights for Africa and a total of five non-permanent seats for Africa.

“Mr. Ambassador, as we thank the government and peoples of your great country for continued support to our development agenda, we are more hopeful for brighter and promising Liberia-China relations,” he said.

Earlier in remarks, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yue, said China is the second largest contributor to peace-keeping operations of the United Nations and a major peace keepers contributing country to Africa among the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

He said China connects its own development to world prosperity and development, noting that in the past 67 years China not only made the 1.3 billion Chinese people live better, but made great contributions to development and stability of the world.

Envoy Zhang emphasized that China strives to build a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation instead of confrontation exclusiveness.
