Members of the National Legislature appreciate the execution of the national priorities amid complex impacting global dynamics as well as provide an opportunity for the Executive and Legislature to dialogue on common issues of national interest as the administration speeds up to leave a lasting legacy.
In her opening statement, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said the retreat was intended to provide lawmakers the opportunity to get a better understanding into prevailing national issues.
Welcoming participants at the retreat, House Speaker, J. Emmanuel Nuquay thanked the leaderships of the Executive and both Houses of the Legislature for reaching a decision to come together in order to chart a common course in the national interest.
The retreat witnessed several presentations that particularly covered the national economic outlook, monetary policy, highlight on the agriculture and manufacturing sector to ensure value addition; updates on the security sector amid UNMIL drawdown; the current state of our national infrastructure development – the overall picture of the energy sector; progress and challenges in the health, education, gender and a panoramic view of the labor picture in the country.
