MONROVIA, December 17 (LINA) - Liberian President and Chairperson of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has congratulated the Government and People of Ghana for the successful conduct of the recent Presidential and General Elections under the astute leadership of President John Mahama.

In the message to her Ghanaian counterpart, President Sirleaf, on behalf of the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS Authority, and in her own name,

stressed that under President Mahama’s leadership, Ghana has exhibited new height in democratic governance that is difficult to match.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, President Sirleaf indicated that the outcome of the recent elections in Ghana is “a clear manifestation of President Mahama’s strong commitment to democratic values and principle, which the people of Ghana have nurtured for many years.”

“You displayed the highest level of patriotism and nationalism during these elections, thus bringing pride not only to the people of Ghana but to the entire continent of Africa,” the ECOWAS Chairperson emphasized.

President Sirleaf said President Mahama will be remembered as a nationalist who follows the fine examples of his predecessors in ensuring that Ghana remains the beacon of democratic leadership in West Africa.

The Liberian leader assured President Mahama of continued goodwill of the people of ECOWAS community and her personal admiration and prayed that the Almighty God will continue to endow him with abundant wisdom and strength as he hands over power to another democratically-elected President.
