MONROVIA, December 26 (LINA) - Judge Yusuf D. Kaba of the Civil Law Court is calling for the establishment of an additional Civil Law Court. In an interview with the Liberia News Agency recently, Judge Kaba said if created, the additional court will be able to handle specific cases, while the existing one will do likewise.

He added that when created the court’s capacity will be widened and the number of cases disposed of in a given term will increase. “Currently the court hears all civil cases brought before it, including court divorce, change of name, ejectment, summary proceeding, and judicial review, among others,” Judge Kaba noted.

The Civil Law is by law a single court that has two courtrooms labelled Civil Law Court “A and B” presided over by Judge Kaba as Resident Judge. Court records available to LINA say for the June Term the court disposed of 76 cases in all categories, including 30 ejection cases, 22 divorce cases, six change of name and four damages cases.

Following the Monday, December 19, opening of the court, Judge Kaba disclosed that over 13 lawyers have called for the assignment of their cases.
