The chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of LTA, Angelique Weeks, made the presentation of the items in the Court “A” Hall of the Temple of Justice on Wednesday.
She said the entity was extremely pleased to have delivered on its part of the collaborative effort with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) that is aimed at creating e-government applications and systems intended to bring greater efficiency to the services this government provides to its citizens.
According to her, the donation is in keeping with a pilot e-Justice system which would automate a number of court functions and services, including proceedings schedules, hearing dates, receipt of court fees, scanning of court documents, and issuance of notices.
It also provides for the preparation and publication of court orders, ruling, electronic signature, electronic document management and record keeping, communication with stakeholders and party intigants via email online and automated generation of statistical and management reports.
She also disclosed that the project has succeeded in establishing an e-Government Management Program at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications as well as developing an e-work permit application at the Ministry of Labor.
The over US$130,000 donation included electronic hardware, among which were computer servers, desktops and tables, network switches and routers, enterprise scanners, printers and photocopiers, projectors and a screen LCD display.
Others are wireless access points, operating software, anti-virus applications, and network fiber cable, among other electronic equipment.
Receiving the material, Chief Justice Francis Korkpor praised the LTA for the donation and stresses the need for other public institutions to follow suit as it will help greatly with the delivery of services to citizens.
He pledged to ensure that the donation will serve the purpose for which it is intended describing it as a milestone in the history of the judiciary.
The program was attended by some associate justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia, the Court Administrator Elizabeth Nelson, judges, counselor, attorney, court staff, the media and onlookers.
