MONROVIA, January 18 (LINA) - River Gee County Senator Conmany Wesseh is calling on political parties to permit more women candidates to contest on their tickets in the October 2017 presidential and legislative elections.

He observed that this will help ensure that more female legislators will be in the 54th National Legislature in 2018.

The River Gee County lawmaker made the call recently at a program marking the maiden celebration of the ECOWAS Human Rights Day held at the Monrovia City Hall.

He stressed that it is about time that political parties champion women issues in their platforms to transform the plight of Liberian women and girls.

Wesseh noted that political parties have not been providing spaces and opportunities for women candidates to contest on their tickets for elected positions over the years, and hoped 2017 would be different for women candidates.

He emphasized that Liberian woman candidates should compete with their male counterparts in their parties’ primaries to contest in their various districts in the pending elections.
