According to NLA Deputy Director-General for Operations, Agnes M. Effiong, the situation is causing “a very serious problem” for school going children who sometimes stay away from school to play these games.
Making the disclosure Thursday at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia, Madam Effiong stressed that getting involved in these gambling activities keep the children out of school, adding that it is dangerous for their future.
According to Effiong, NLA is collaborating with the Liberia National Police to ensure that those involved in these activities face the full weight of the law.
“You have the right to have Play Station Video game in your home, but if you are caught commercializing it, you will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country," she emphasized.
The NLA was established by an Act of the 53rd National Legislature in 2014 that repealed the 1993 Act which created the former National Lottery Corporation of Liberia with the mandate to certificate, warn and regulate all user firms such as casinos, sports betting and raffle draws within Liberia.
