In a statement released in Monrovia recently, NEC said eight of the nine candidates are from political parties, while the ninth is an independent female candidate.
The candidates are Jeremiah Saah Borlay of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction Party; James T.O. Peter of the Alternative National Congress; William Tamba Kamba, Sr. of the Movement for Economic Empowerment; William Saah Kettor of the Unity Party and Joseph Tamba Machulay, Sr. of the Liberia Transformation Party.
Others are Francis Sakila Nyummaleng of the Union for Liberian Democrats, William Saa Tamba of the Liberty Party, Tamba Damacious Saysay of the All Liberian Party and independent candidate Elizabeth Tamba.
According to a NEC statement, the release of the names of the candidates is in line with its key electoral dates for the Lofa County District # 1 by-election as mandated by the Constitution.
Meanwhile, NEC has officially declared campaign open in District #1 Lofa County by-election running from January 23 and ending at midnight on February 26.
