MONROVIA, March 2 (LINA) - The Liberia National Police (LNP) has embarked on community engagements geared towards maintaining peace

and stability in the country during the October 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.

Addressing a news conference at the Ministry of Information in Monrovia Thursday, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman named one of the engagements as the “Good Deed Initiative".

Coleman explained that the initiative requires police officers to go from community-to-community to explain to residents the role of the police, adding that each officer is required “to do at least one good deed a day.”

According to Coleman, the purpose of this initiative is to familiarize the police with community dwellers and help build citizens’ trust in the force.

The police boss said with this initiative the Police will be able to respond to emergency calls rapidly because the police will already be familiar with the community and people.

“In order for the Police to be complimented, it has to be seen as a credible body; that is why we are strengthening our system and procedures,” Coleman noted.
