ZWEDRU CITY, March 20 (LINA) – Public Works Ministry Resident Engineer in Grand Gedeh County has warned individuals against removing gravels along the highways, or face arrest and prosecution.

Engineer Pewee Kesselly told the Liberian News Agency in an interview recently that these tough measures are being announced to ensure public safety.

He noted that some "unscrupulous people" are in the constant habit of removing gravel, blocking drainages with dirt and engaging in other acts that are detrimental to public safety.

The Resident Engineer told LINA that the Liberia National Police, government officials, especially district superintendents, county commissioners and chiefs have been notified about this “unwholesome act” by citizens and residents.

"Gravel  on  the  roads is  intended  to  prevent  water  from creating potholes, while gutters, culverts  and  bridges control  erosion," Kesselly pointed out.

The Public Works official also observed that people are unadvisedly constructing houses, speed breakers and other structures anywhere on major highways, roads and communities, thus posing danger to public safety.
