MONROVIA September 10 (LINA) -The Chairperson of the Constitution Review Committee (CRC), Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, has disclosed that the Committee has begun sensitizing Liberians on the recent State of Emergency declared by the government.

She said the CRC has instructed its focal persons in the 15 political sub-divisions to educate Liberians on the recent State of Emergency because many Liberians are not acquainted with their Constitution and the portion that gives the right to the President to declare a State of Emergency in crisis periods.

Cllr. Scott made the disclosure Wednesday in an interview with reporters at her Old Road Office.

She said the CRC focal persons will liaise with community radio stations in the counties that are partnering with the CRC to conduct ‘Sensitization Talk Shows “to educate the citizenry on what led to the State of Emergency.

The CRC chairperson explained that article 86 (a/b) of the 1986 Constitution gives the President the authority to declare a State of Emergency in times of war or any crisis that threatens the survival of the citizens, stressing that “the outbreak of the Ebola virus is a threat to Liberia’s survival.”
