MONROVIA October 7, (LINA) –Judge Nelson Tokpa of Criminal Court “D” at the Temple of Justice will on Friday, October 10, 2014 give final ruling against Nyumah Tamba found guilty for armed robbery by the petit jurors of the court Monday.
It took the jurors of six a little more than two hours to reach the unanimous guilty verdict against Tamba, who, all along during the two-month trial, pleaded innocent about the charge, according to the Liberia News Agency.
Police arrested Tamba on December 2, 2011 after he, along with 10 accomplices, held Harris Johnson at gun and knives point at his home at about 11:45 p.m. in the GSA Road Community in Paynesville robbing him of his valuables in the tone of US$5,169 as well as LD$26,225.00, respectively.
During the trial which started in August, Prosecutor Sunifu Sheriff made the case against Tamba against the backdrop that the victim usually gave the convict gratuities each time he drove by the car loading station at the ELWA Junction in Paynesville on his way home.
The prosecutor stated further that because Johnson established rapport with Tamba, he consented to having him over at his house for a short visit upon Tamba’s request.
According to Sheriff, it was at that juncture that Tamba later planned and masterminded the armed robbery on Johnson that night.
Defense Attorney, Tee Wolo Mounir, argued that his client is innocent, saying that Tamba could not have committed the crime because he was an income generating car loader at that station for over six years.
He said the prosecution does not have the best evident to link his client to the crime.
However, following all evidences adduced at the trial, the jury of three women and three men reached a unanimous guilty verdict against Tamba who was immediately taken to the Monrovia Central Prison pending final ruling by Judge Tokpa.
