MONROVIA, August 17 (LINA) –A Liberian prelate Rev. Samuel Quire of the United Methodist Church (UMC) has likened Liberians to Israelis who call on God only in times of trouble, but resort to “ungodly practices” after God restores hope to their country.
Rev. Quire, who is Special Assistant to the Bishop of the Liberia Annual Conference of the UMC, emphasized that Liberians were quick to forget what God did for them when the nation was faced with crisis, noting that when things became normal again, they paid less attention to God.
He made the statement Sunday at a program marking the 16th Anniversary of the New Water in the Desert Assembly Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Brewerville outside Monrovia.
Rev. Quire noted that during the civil war, Liberians cried for God’s intervention, but tafter God intervened and restored peace to their country they turned their backs on him and returned to their evil ways.
Making specific reference to the setting up of road blocks in various communities to call the attention to health authorities to collect suspected Ebola bodies around Monrovia, he admonished Liberians not to cause chaos in the country in this period of calamity.
He said Liberia cannot afford to return to the ugly past as the country has lagged behind more than 100 years in its development drive as a result of conflict, noting that Liberians should instead maintain the peace no matter the situation confronting the nation.
