MONROVIA, August 27 (LINA) -The Criminal Court “C’ at the Temple of Justice has sentenced defendants in a drug trafficking case to five and two years in prison respectively.

Handing down the final ruling Wednesday, Presiding Judge Yusuf Kaba said defendants Perry Dolo, Augustine Saah and Sekou Rogers are sentenced to five years, while defendants Cyrus Slewion and Mohammed Bah, who facilitated the crime, are going to jail for two years.

He said the three sent to prison for five years criminally and intentionally transported the drugs, while the two served as accomplices in the commission of the crime.

The sentencing by the judge followed a unanimous guilty verdict handed down by jurors in the trial about four weeks ago.

It can be recalled that Defendant Dolo and accomplices were arrested with drugs by security officers at the Tienni Checkpoint in Grand Cape Mount County in November 2013, following a tip-off.

The value of the drugs was put at over three million Liberian dollars.

Prior to his arrest, Dolo served as police escort commander at the presidency.

Meanwhile, defense lawyers have taken exception to the ruling and announced an appeal to the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The prosecution was represented by Cllr. Theophilus Gould and Jerry Galawuo, while the defense team was represented by Attorneys Arthur Johnson and Swaliho Sesay.
