MONROVIA, August 31 (LINA) -The Trial Jury of Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has brought down a unanimous guilty verdict against defendant Augustine David in a murder trial.

David was arrested on June 17, 2012 for allegedly killing his friend during fight and was turned over to the Liberia National Police for investigation and later remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison pending trial.

The six-member jury, comprising three men and three women, brought down the unanimous guilty verdict against David after a careful consideration of the evidence adduced at the trial.

Defendant David admitted committing the act, but said it was a mistake which led to the death of his friend, saying, “I regret the incident.”

Following the argument on Friday, prosecution supported its argument that murder is a first degree crime which cannot be compromised.

Defense lawyer Atty. Elisha Forekaya requested the court to temper justice with mercy against the defendant.

Presiding Judge Johannes Zlahn said final judgment in the case will be rendered on Wednesday, September 3.

Judge Zlahn has, meanwhile, urged all counsels and their clients to be present in court to witness rendition of the final judgment in the case.
