ROBERTSPORT, September 1 (LINA) - Paramount Chief Momo Senwah of Tumbey Chiefdom in Commonwealth District, Grand Cape Mount County, says the lack of safe drinking water and modern latrines are posing health and sanitation problems for the chiefdom.

He said since the five hand pumps and four public latrines in the chiefdom were destroyed as a result of the 14-year civil conflict, they are yet to be rehabilitated or restored.

Chief Senwah, who made the disclosure recently in Robertsport in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA), said because of this situation, citizens are drinking unsafe water from the nearby creek.

The chief said it is regrettable that in this modern age, the citizens are still using nearby bushes to defecate due to lack of public facilities.

Paramount Chief Senwah said besides, farm-to-market roads in the district are in deplorable condition, adding, “This is causing some commercial vehicles to refuse to ply these routes.”
