MONROVIA, Jan 8 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia will on Thursday, January 9, launch the new Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) for children between zero and five years old.

The government through the Ministry of Health noted that the new drug will help cure cold in children and also prevent Meningitis or stiff neck.

The Coordinator for Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA), and Expanded Immunization Program, Mr. Augustine Newray told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that the new supplement will be added to existing vaccines administered to children under-five across the country.

”Pneumonia and Meningitis are the world’s third ranking killer diseases and also major killers of children in this part of the world,” noted Newray.

Meanwhile the Liberian Government is commending the World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNDP and other international partners for their continuous support to the Liberian people through vaccination programs.
