MONROVIA, Jan 8 (LINA) - The Director-General of the General Services Agency (GSA), Madam Mary Broh, has expressed concern over the involvement of under-age children in gambling, taking the form of sports betting.

She observed that sports betting have become so rampant in the country that school-age children are often seen during schools hours engaging in “sport betting” in various parts of Monrovia, stressing the need to control this practice.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Madam Broh was speaking Wednesday at the GSA compound when she was gowned and certificated by the National Council of Chiefs and Elders of Liberia (NCCEL) for her dedicated services to the people of Liberia over the years.

She told members of the NCCEL to take the lead in setting standards that will prevent under-age children from engaging in the form of gambling called sport betting, expressing fear that it will make them engage into stealing.

Madam Broh said she has nothing against gambling in the country owning to the fact that they are legally operating and are paying legitimate taxes to the Liberian Government, but said allowing under-age children get involved in the sports betting does not augur well for the country and should be stopped.
