MONROVIA, September 18 (LINA) – Authorities of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) say they have recorded 35 fire incidents since the outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in March this year.
According to the Director of Communications and Public Relations at the LNFS, said the five cases occurred between June and August, with two deaths and no major report of property damage.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Monrovia on Thursday, Col. Jassah N.Ganyan said the fire incidents were caused by candle light, illegal connection of electric wires and storage of gasoline in homes.
Col. Ganyan commended citizens for abiding by the advice given them by the LNFS against the use of flammable items in their homes and hiring of unqualified private technicians to electrify their abode.
She admonished those wanting to electrify their homes to contact the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and not to hire unqualified individuals to do such a critical job.
The LNFS official added: “Those unqualified individuals sometimes even purchase substandard wires and electrical equipment to do the work.”
