MONROVIA, September 22 (LINA) -Residents of Caldwell New Georgia North and Louisiana have expressed concern over a ditch that has been dug in the road linking their communities to the rest of Monrovia.
According to the residents, the ditch, which is over 10 feet long and three feet deep, was allegedly dug by the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) in an apparent attempt to repair a utility pipe.
The ditch, located between the Caldwell Bridge and the Caldwell Junction, has virtually reduced the road to a single lane, thereby leading to traffic congestion during rush hours.
Residents, including the former Montserrado County District 13 Representative, Victoria Lynch, told the Liberia News Agency that the possibility that a vehicle or motorcycle could fall into the ditch at night or while trying to avoid collision, was high.
When contacted, LWSC management acknowledged that it dug the ditch three days ago to repair a customer’s line and pledged to fill the ditch as soon as possible.
The LWSC was created by an Act of National Legislature in 1973 as a public corporation to manage and supply to all parts of Liberia, safe drinking pipe borne water and perform all sewage services, as well as to maintain such water and sewage facilities.
