MONROVIA, October 6 (LINA) - The Liberia News Agency (LINA) has a new Managing Editor.

He is Professor James K. Wolo, an experienced media consultant, a former director general of LBS and a onetime international civil servant with UNMIL, as Head of Media Monitoring and development.

Wolo, whose appointment took effect on Monday, October 6, was appointed to the position by the Project Manager of the Liberia News Agency, Jay Nagbe Sloh, on Wednesday, October 1 with the approval of the Minister of Information, Lewis G. Brown.

Sloh said his decision is based on “continuing efforts to improve LINA’s content and maintain professionalism in the editorial department of the agency.

In a communication dated October 1, Sloh indicated that Professor Wolo will head the editorial department as well as supervise productions of the daily news bulletins and the LINA magazine, Liberia Today, to be launched in November.

According to the communication, Wolo is also expected to serve as both a mentor and supervisor, including providing guidance to editors and newsroom employees.

Sloh then called on all employees of LINA, including the editorial staff, to join him in welcoming the new managing editor, who he described as, “an old hand in the Liberian media landscape.”

The Liberia News Agency (LINA) was established in 1979 as part of government’s effort to provide a communication policy that seeks to mobilize citizens for nation building, economic and social development.

After a prolonged period of inactivity due to the civil unrest in the country that lasted from 1989 to 2003, LINA was reactivated in September 2012 through the efforts of Information Minister Brown who successfully sold the entity’s reactivation project to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and members of her cabinet.
Mr. Jay Nagbe Sloh, a former LINA employee, was appointed Project Manager.
