MONROVIA, Feb 22 (LINA) -The head of public affairs of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Mr. Aboidun Aduloju, has that there is a low turn-out of candidates for the May and June 2014 West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

Quoting a report from the he Liberia Examination Committee, he called on education administrators to step up public awareness about the numerous advantages of expanding participation in this international examination.

Speaking in an interview with reporters in Monrovia Friday, Mr. Aduloju said the committee expressed gratitude to WAEC headquarters, as well the national officers and examiners in the four member countries, for their guidance and assistance to the Liberia national office towards the successful conduct of the WASSCE.

The exam was administered in Liberia for the first time in May and June 2013. He said the report considered cases of irregularity and applied appropriate sanctions against candidates who were found guilty of involvement in examination malpractice.

He said the report noted the poor performance of Liberian candidates in the WAEC, and that no candidate met the selected criteria, either the WAEC Distinction or Merit Award or the Liberia National Award in 2013.

He said, the report urged teachers, parents, education administrators and other stakeholders to ensure diligent implementation of the recommendations contained in the Chief Examiners' reports, produced by WAEC on the various subjects, to improve performance in subsequent exams.
