VOINJAMA, Feb 23 (LINA)- Health workers at the Telewoyan Memorial Health in Voinjama City, Lofa County have officially resumed work after abandoning the hospital for five days.

The health workers took the decision Saturday at the end of a two-hour consultative meeting held in the hospital compound with Lofa County Superintendent Mr. George Dunor, health board members, stakeholders, as well as concerned citizens of the county. During the meeting, numerous issues were raised by local county authorities.

The Lofa County superintendent reminded the health workers about their apology last Thursday to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and the promise they made that they would resume work that day, but later changed their minds, following the departure of the Liberian leader from the county, something which he noted, shows disrespect to the Liberian leader and county authorities.

Health workers across the country recently staged a go-slow action in demand of improved salaries and other benefits.
During the meeting, the health workers apologized to citizens of the county including the county authorities, for abandoning their various hospitals and health centers in the county in demand of improved salaries and other benefits.

They expressed regret over their decision, noting that their profession calls on them to save lives at all times, no matter the circumstances and promised to resume work immediately on Saturday, February 22.

Superintendent Dunor commended the health workers for their decision and assured them of Government’s preparedness to address their concerns.
Meanwhile, the Global Pentecostal Church in Voinjama on Saturday, February 22, assembled Telewoyan Memorial health workers to give thanks to God for their decision to return to work and also offered prayers to God for them.
