Resource Dearth Slows Education System Revamp-Official

MONROVIA, Feb 24(LINA) - Deputy Education Minister for Instruction Hawah Goll-Kotchi says the lack of financial resources is hampering the revamping of the Liberian education system.

Minister Goll-Kotchi said out of a budget of US$97 million the Ministry of Education submitted for the 2013/2014 National Budget, it received only US$38 million.

She told the Liberia News Agency over the weekend hat if financial resources are pumped into education the sector will become more vibrant in developing the human resource capacity of the country.

She indicated that the ministry has embarked on weeding out unqualified teachers from the system across the country, and assured that after the exercise mainly trained and competent teachers will remain in the classroom.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister has advised unqualified teachers yearning be to in the classroom to enroll in the various teacher training institutes to become professional teachers.
