SANNIQUELLIE, Feb 26 (LINA) -Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has accepted a request by student leaders and the administration of the Nimba County Community College (NCCC) to play an ambassadorial role in pursuit of aid and support for the college.
Speaking at the inauguration of the student council government held on Monday, February 24, in the auditorium of the college in Sanniquellie; the student council president-elect Prince Mehn, also asked Minister Ngafuan to help the students with scholarships, construction of a student center and transportation, which he classified as major constraints facing the students.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the president of the college, Dr. Yar Donlah Gonway Gono named a science laboratory, advanced computer lab, adequate operational funding, higher education text books, faculty exchange and advancement programs as some major academic needs of the college.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister Ngafuan cautioned the students to sustain advocacy, but outside of what he described as “restless militancy and shameless opportunity merchandizing”.
He donated five scholarships and $30,000 Liberian Dollars to the student council as his initial contribution to the students.
Apparently encouraged by the intellectual capacity, orderliness of the college, and the massive turnout of the students, Minister Ngafuan promised to serve as an ambassador for the college in Monrovia.
Ngafuan said what he saw at the college were citizens of Liberia yearning for quality education and as such “should not be forgotten”.
The Liberian Foreign minister reasoned that there would be no regret, if the Government of Liberia and the people of Nimba increase their support to the College.
At the program, Minister Ngafuan pledged $ 40,000 Liberian Dollars toward the youth center project initiated by the Sanniquellie Youth Association.
