BUCHANAN, March 2 (LINA) - The Chief Education Officer for Grand Bassa County, Mr. Edwin S. Kwakpae, is calling on the Education Ministry to redouble its efforts to remove from its payroll ‘ghost names’.
Mr. Kwakpae observed that there are more names on the payroll collecting pay checks monthly but are not found in the classrooms.
He told the Liberia News Agency at the weekend that he is presently working on a template to know the statuses of teachers who are on study leave, sick leave, those who have died and those in active service.
He said upon completion of the template, he will undertake a county tour in March to identify these ills.
CEO Kwakpae said because more trained teachers are refusing to take up assignments in rural communities, he is appealing to authorities of the ministry to train those unqualified persons who have the passion for the profession to take up rural posts.
Grand Bassa County has a total of 190 public schools, with an enrollment of 47,616 students and 885 instructional staff, while there are 104 private and Mission schools, with an enrollment of 59, 639 students and 938 teaching staff for the academic 2013/2014.
CEO Kwakpae took up assignment in the county in October 2013.
