MONROVIA, January 25 (LINA) - Monrovia City Mayor Clara Doe Mvogo has proposed long-term recognition for personnel volunteering in the ongoing Ebola fight across the country.
She said a service certificate or scholarship for advanced studies in diverse areas might be a suitable option so that Liberians would always avail themselves to serve whenever they are called upon, especially in emergency situations.
She made the statement Saturday at the Administrative Building in the Borough of New Kru Town when she responded to volunteers’ concerns about a permanent reminder of their efforts.
Mvogo observed that volunteers’ commitment to national undertakings cannot only be measured in terms of dollars and cents, but in terms of hours, days and weeks spent away from their families and loved ones
“We will really try to liaise with partners involved to honour your requests, because we know the resistance you have to confront on a daily basis just to serve your country,” she added.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNICEF, trained over 500 volunteers working in social mobilization across the country as part of the Ebola response.
