MONROVIA, January 27 (LINA) – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is to ensure implementation of the NGO Policy Guidelines and re-registration process to be announced by the end of the first half of this year.

 
Making the statement, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf recalled that last year she announced several policy measures on NGOs that are intended, under a compliance and regulatory environment, to strengthen proper transparency and accountability of the resources they receive and the results they produce.
 
“This will transition the registration from a manual computer-based system to an online registration process,” the Liberian leader said in her Annual Message in the Joint Chambers of the National Legislature Monday.
 
 She observed that this process will enable NGOs to properly account for their operations at the local level where they work, allowing local government to have real time information on what NGO is doing and where.
 
“This is consistent with our new drive to de-concentrate and decentralize the delivery of services and to foster greater accountability to local government and citizens structures by the NGOs operating at the local level,” the President said.
 
She lauded NGOs operating in Liberia for continuing to be “very strong partners in our development work,” noting that their “speed and effectiveness of response” during the Ebola outbreak made “tremendous contribution to our national effort.”
