MONROVIA, January 28 (LINA) – The Liberian Senate will Thursday, January 29, accept or reject the proposed guidelines and date for the holding of election for the President Pro-Tempore and leadership committees of the body.

The acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Orders, George Tengbeh, had earlier proposed February 10 and 17 for the poll as well as guidelines to govern the process.

The election is occasioned by the defeat of former Pro-temp Gbehzongar Findley and other leaders of the body in the December 20, 2014 Mid-term Senatorial election.

The vacant positions include the President Pro-tempore and the chairmanships of the Committees on Executive; Ways, Means, Finance and Budget; and Rules, Order and Administration.

Tengbeh said the guidelines indicate that winners of the election shall serve a period of three years because they will be ending tenures of the defeated senators.

According to him, the guidelines also stipulate that any senator serving in leadership must resign their post to be eligible to contest in the coming election.

All aspirants shall on election day make a ten minute presentation in the case of the President Pro-Tempore and five minutes for the leadership committees, he said.
