MONROVIA, January 28(LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says with better governance, leadership and an incentive structure, the Liberia Revenue Authority should significantly improve revenue performance.

Pres. Sirleaf, however, noted that the achievement of this will require the cooperation and support from government officials and political authorities in the country.

The President’s remarks were contained in her Annual Message delivered Monday at the National Legislature in compliance with Article 58 of the Liberian Constitution of 1986.

She maintained that just as government pursues ordinary people and businesses to pay their taxes, the same treatment will be extended to officials of government in the three branches, who should commit to bearing their fair share of the tax burden.

“This is the only sustainable way to finance our national development and improve service delivery to our people,” the Chief Executive intoned.
