MONROVIA, January 26 (LINA) – Grand Kru County Senator Albert Chie has said this year’s 168th Independence Day celebration in Grand Kru and Sinoe counties on July 26 “will be a clear sign of decentralization” in governance.

“This will show that decentralization is not just verbal, but actual in the government’s policy and planning,” he said in an interview with the Liberia News Agency recently.

It will be recalled that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, in her State of the Nation address before a Joint Session of the National LegislatureMonday, said the celebrations will be held in the two counties.

In 2014, the celebrations were initially planned to take place in the two counties, but had to be cancelled due to bad road condition and the outbreak of the Ebola virus in March.

Similarly, Public Works Minister Gyude Moore has indicated that the ministry has begun liaising with Atlantic Resource and other construction companies to speedily rehabilitate roads linking Monrovia and the host counties.
