MONROVIA, January 29 (LINA) -The opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the State of the Nation address delivered Monday by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

ANC Secretary-General Jonathan Dolakeh observed that the president’s message touched areas of national development that the ANC was concerned about.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Dolakeh made the statement Thursday when he appear on the ‘’Super FM” breakfast show in Monrovia.

He noted that ANC supports the education program for female students as announced by President Sirleaf, but expressed regrets over the “failure of the free compulsory primary education” program previously launched by government.

“The party believes that for the 30 percent women representation in the National Legislature to yield fruits, women must be afforded the opportunity to acquire the needed education that would enable them meet that representation mark,” Dolakeh noted.
The opposition leader also lauded reports of debt payment for private schools by the Central Bank to commercial banks, drastic reduction in Ebola cases and the structure of good governance as contained in the president’s speech.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf State of the Nation address, among other things, outlined several development programs that when put in place would help to move Liberia forward.
