BUCHANAN, February 1 (LINA) - Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly is calling on Superintendents of the 15 counties to allot 250 acres of farmland within an eight miles of their provincial capitals to produce food.

Minister Dukuly made the statement over the weekend in Buchanan where superintendents are gathered for a retreat.

“We need to produce sufficient quantity of food to be able to feed ourselves and to generate some income, so agriculture is important,” he said.

Dukuly informed the superintendents that the Ministry of Internal Affairs intends to put some money into the project, though it may not be much, but urged them to get involved.

“I am appealing to you as superintendents to go beyond rice farms, plant tree crops as well because you cannot retire on rice so encourage yourselves to go into tree crops.”

He told the gathering of superintendents that his ministry will also engage the National Housing Authority (NHA) to construct housing units on the 250 acres so as to alleviate the housing problem facing government employees taking up assignments in the leeward counties.
