AU Proposes Post-Ebola Confab In Liberia

MONROVIA, February 3 (LINA) – The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council has mandated the AU Commission to work with the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Development Bank to convene an African Solidarity Conference in Liberia.


The decision which was reached at the level of Heads of State and Government conference in Ethiopia is to mobilize support for post-epidemic reconstruction and cancellation of external debt of Liberia and other countries affected by the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The Council noted the improvement in the Ebola-affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, as well as the declaration of the Republic of Mali as Ebola-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 19 January 2015.
 
In a Foreign Ministry release, Foreign Minister Augustine Ngafuan represented President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who wrote a communiqué on the status of the Ebola Virus Outbreak in the three affected countries at the end of the meeting held on Thursday, January 29.
