MONROVIA, February 4 (LINA) - United Nations Development Program (UNDP)  Country Director Kamil Kamaluddeen has called on residents of West Point to use the presence of Ebola survivors as a unifying force to end stigmatization in the country.

“These survivors are now immune to the virus and as such, you ought to be your brother’s keeper,” he said Wednesday.

According to an UNDP release, he made the statement as the UN agency distributed 64 solar radios and lanterns to over 60 Ebola survivors and orphans of the West Point Community.

The distribution is in continuation of the organization’s effort to assist Ebola survivors and orphans in having access to information and the provision of light in their homes.

In remarks, Vexter Doe, one of the Ebola survivors, assured that community members will abide by preventive measures set by authorities of the Health Ministry and partners, especially the constant washing of hands.

Doe also underscored the need for support from other government and other institutions to Ebola survivors, as they were greatly affected.

The solar radios and lanterns were procured by Lifeline Energy, a South Africa-based non-governmental organization, and the Japan-based Panasonic Corporation, the release stated.
