BOPOLU, February 4 (LINA) - Thirty-one workers at the Gbarpolu Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) have been laid-off by the management of Boyasay Shelloe due to low academic standard.

Boyasay Shelloe is an international non-governmental organization in charge of the management and operation of the ETU in the county.

Making the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency recently, the organization’s Site Manager Allen Shaic said the management was compelled to take the action because the contractors could barely read nor write their names, a basic requirement for anyone working in an ETU.

He disclosed that the affected individuals were paid their necessary benefits in line with the Labor Law of Liberia.
Shaic noted that the 31 persons were recommended by the leadership of the local youth group, Youth in Action for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS (YAPA) during the entity’s first recruitment exercise conducted in the county.

Meanwhile, the Boyasay official has confirmed there would be another exercise in Bopolu to recruit Liberians who are qualified to perform the task.
