MONROVIA, February 10 (LINA) -The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have donated three sewer trucks valued at US$700,000 to the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC).
Presenting the trucks to the LWSC management Tuesday, UNICEF Country Representative Sheldon Yett observed that UNICEF attaches importance to Liberia’s water and sanitation situation.
Yett recounted that too many children die globally, including in Liberia, from diarrhea, and hoped that the donation will go a long way in reducing the deaths of children across the country.
LWSC Managing Director Charles Allen thanked UNICEF and USAID for the gesture, and noted that waste disposal in Liberia is a challenging task.
Allen said the donation will allow the LWSC flexibility to respond to such national issue, particularly sewerage disposal.
He observed that although the donor community will help the institution, its staff and management must do the rest of the job for the betterment of society.
