MONROVIA February 10 (LINA) – Judges have been called upon to discharge their functions with utmost respect for the security of the human person consistent with the peace and security of the state.
Presiding Judge of the Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Judge Roosevelt Willie, made the call when he delivered his charge at the program marking the formal opening of the First Judicial Circuit of Criminal Assizes A, B, C for the February 2015 Term of Court Monday.
“We should never again allow ourselves to be indicted by any local or international bodies for acts incompatible with our ethics,” Judge Willie pointed out.
He noted that when the citizens are denied their political and civil liberties or their basic entitlements such as education, drinking water and other social services, judges must have the tenacity to adjudicate them without fear or favor.
He pointed out that such steadfastness should similarly apply to disputes between and among private citizens and institutions.
Meanwhile, Judge Willie has told lawyers that the charge of the February Term of Court is “a prayer and ardent hope that we all take note and do nothing less, as the security of the state is dependent on security of the human person, recognizing that the judiciary is its pillar.”
