President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has lauded the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) for its role in the country’s Ebola crisis.

“The AFL under Chief of Staff Daniel Ziankahn, in the past one year, especially during the months of our national health crisis, has brought credibility to himself, the army and the Government and people of Liberia,” President Sirleaf observed.

She noted that apart from the unfortunate incident in WestPoint between residents and personnel of the AFL, leading to the death of Shaki Kamara in August of last year, the army and joint security forces accomplished their mission professionally and with utmost diligence.

President Sirleaf made the statement when she delivered her Armed Forces Day Message at programs marking the 58th Armed Forces Day anniversary held at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia on Wednesday.

She disclosed that the AFL in collaboration with personnel of the United States Army, local authorities and health workers constructed several Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) across the country as well as rehabilitated dilapidated roads leading to these ETUs.

President Sirleaf also outlined the rehabilitation of major roads across Montserrado, including the Kebbah Road in Barnersville Township few weeks ago, by the AFL Engineering Battalion in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works and Engineering Battalion of the U.S. Military as key among achievements of the army.
