KAKATA, February 14 (LINA) - Save the Children International (SCI) along with the Ministries of Education and Health local offices in Margibi County Saturday held a one-day training workshop for school administrators and community leaders in the county.
SCI Education Project Manager Augustine Kullie said the school rollout workshop is intended to train the participants on implementation of the back to school rollout program for the resumption of schools in the county.
He told the Liberia News Agency that the exercise was part of the “Protocol for Safe School Environment in the Wake of Ebola Outbreak in Liberia” being rolled out to teachers, school administrators and community leaders.
Kullie disclosed that the social mobilization is also a key component in the fight against Ebola and that he looks forward to seeing school administrators, teachers and community leaders having detailed understanding of the exercise.
The Protocol for Safe School Environment calls for the setting up of a Health Safety Committee in every school across Liberia and to ensure that better water, sanitation and hygiene measures are put into place at every school, among others.
Also speaking at the start of the workshop, Kakata District Education Officer Amanda Zota said her office will ensure the full execution of the protocol, vowing to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the exercise approved by the Ministries Education and Health and partners is executed.
The cost of the safe school protocol rollout workshop is put at over US$50,000 for the three school districts in Margibi County.
