SANNIQUELLIE, February 17 (LINA) - Public Works Minister William Gyude Moore has revealed plans by the Ministry to engage Liberian companies for a progressive rural development.

He said prioritizing Liberian companies is very important in the continuation of the country’s infrastructural projects, especially during crisis such as the Ebola crisis.

The minister recalled that during the height of the Ebola outbreak the foreign companies left the country, “leaving our major projects undone” but the Liberian companies were here.

He said the Ministry of Public Works would ensure that the capacities of local companies are developed to enable them not only implement feeder roads, but also secondary and, eventually, primary roads in the country.

In another development, Minister Moore has said while it true that government is struggling to maintain quality roads in the urban areas, it is equally the wish of the Ministry of Public Works to maintain feeder and secondary roads in the rural areas.

He made the statement Saturday in Sehkimpa Town at the dedicatory ceremony of the Sehkimpa-Karnplay road project, which was implemented by Solid Rock & Pacific Engineering Construction with funding from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
