President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has reaffirmed her commitment to bring the government closer to the people.
She said this was first manifested three years ago with the launch of the Policy on Decentralization and Local Governance in Salala, Bong County.
“The launch of the De-concentration Platform is a further articulation and actualization of the pledge made by our government to bring the government closer to the people,” the Liberian leader declared.
She made the commitment Wednesday during the launch of the De-concentration Platform in Gbarnga, Bong County at the administration building. The program was graced by officials of government and the international community.
President Sirleaf said the Deconcentration Platform “details for sector services to be immediately moved from Monrovia to the county; to bring real and tangible improvement in the lives and environment of our people.”
She said the Platform “is a fast-moving process intended to improve the quality and access to health and other services,” adding that the launch “sends a strong signal to the Liberian people of our determination to ensure that they are active partners in the delivery of services and in the governance of their communities and counties.”
It is also meant to send “a clear and strong message that our country is bouncing back, mighty and strong,” in spite of the ravages that faced the nation as a result of the Ebola epidemic, the Liberian leader said.
