The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Armah Z. Jallah, has said the Senate is “anxiously waiting” for the passage into law of the Deconcentration Platform Policy document following its launch in Gbarnga, Bong County on Wednesday.

Jallah pointed out that the Liberian Senate is prepared to work with the Executive to ensure that the program is successful as it is in the best interest of the Liberian people.

Pro-Temp Jallah made the remarks at the official launch of the National De-concentration Platform held in Gbarnga, Bong County on Wednesday by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

He noted that it is the responsibility of the Legislature to ensure that the rights of the people are increased whenever they seem to be limited, while the Executive is responsible to enforce the rights of citizens whenever they need to be implemented.

The Liberian Government on January 5, 2012 launched the National Policy on Decentralization and Local Governance, a policy which, among other things, visualizes the devolution of functions and resources to local governments over a ten-year period.

The Deconcentration platform will be the highest expression of President Sirleaf’s commitment to decentralize all government program which seeks to ensure that all services of ministries and agencies are sent to the counties are to be directly supervised by the county superintendents.
