MONROVIA, February 19 (LINA) - The Government of Liberia has congratulated the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China on the observance of the 4,713th Chinese New Year today, February 19, as the Year of the Sheep, also called the Year of the Goat.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT), the Liberian government hailed Chinese civilization, tradition and culture which have spanned these years.
The statement recalled the cordial bilateral ties subsisting between the Governments of Liberia and China, noting that China has always identified with Liberia in good and bad times, citing its enormous outpouring of goodwill in helping Liberia battle the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
According to the statement, the footprints of China are also clearly visible in Liberia’s post-war reconstruction and socio-economic development, proving the true friendship of the Asian nation.
The statement noted that considering the historical, long-standing and mutually rewarding ties between the two countries, Liberia and the people of the West African nation are glad to see the Chinese celebrate this traditional and renowned festival.
According to Chinese astrology, each year (starting from Chinese New Year) is associated with an animal sign, occurring in a 12-year cycle. This year is the Year of the Sheep/Goat.
