MONROVIA, February 20 (LINA) - The Liberian Senate has elected seven members to serve in leadership positions.
Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff of Montserrado County was elected chair of the Executive Committee after contenders Commany Wesseh of River Gee County and Daniel Naathan of Gbarpolu County withdrew from the race.
Senator George Tengbeh of Lofa County won on white ballot as Chair of the Committee on Rules and Order.
The body also elected Senators George Weah of Montserrado County and Prince Johnson of Nimba County as its representatives to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament through yea and nay votes.
The poll also saw the election of Senators Edward Dagoseh of Grand Cape Mount County and Thomas Grupee of Nimba County as Chairpersons on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget and Internal Affairs with 15 and 17 votes respectively.
Their contenders, Senators Alphonso Gaye and Francis Paye of Grand Gedeh and RiverCess Counties received 12 and 3 votes each for the post of Ways, Means, Finance and Budget; and the Internal Affairs Committees respectively.
Also elected through yea and nay votes was Rivercess County Senator Dallas Gueh as its member to the Pan-African Parliament.
The body rescheduled elections for the chairpersons on Judiciary and Defense Committees for Tuesday, February 24, because no one vied for these positions.
