MONROVIA, February 21 (LINA) - The Director-General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), George K. Warner, says reforming the structure of public sector wages will greatly impact the delivery of services paid for by government.
He said a uniform salary structure will help halt losses suffered by government in personnel services costs.
Addressing the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee set up to address salary disparity in the public sector, Warner said the single salary structure is already being implemented at the National Legislature, where Representatives and Senators know their monthly earnings.
He added that ministers, deputy and assistant ministers in some ministries as well as employees of the CSA know their monthly earnings.
Warner noted that the new payment structure will be holistic, attaching grade to specific jobs and paying those in said grade a set salary without discrimination or discrepancy.
He, however, expressed concern about the lack of cooperation by some ministries and agencies to provide performance reports on their staff.
The CSA official stressed that some staff will be redundant under the new payment structure for various reasons, and pointed out that the need for them to be trained to suit other aspects of employment.
He said the new public sector modernization exercise has four components, including pay reform, management control, issues of organizational development as well as human resource management.
