MONROVIA, February 24 (LINA) - The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) will hold its pending mini-congress on March 13-14 in Monrovia.
The new dates for the Congress were reached after an expanded emergency meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) Monday afternoon.
The EC ordered the leadership of the Union to step up preparations leading to a successful Congress during which the Union’s three-year Strategic Direction will be launched.
During the Congress, the PUL will present the first report of its ongoing media monitoring program which will point out ethical and professional issues in the media and lead a discussion on the draft Collective Bargaining Agreement that seeks decent salaries and better working conditions for journalists.
The EC also resolved that the March mini-congress will also cover the Union’s Quarterly Meeting.
The EC of the PUL comprises the elected leadership and heads/representatives of each of the five standing committees of the PUL, including Membership, Welfare, Intellectual Discourse, Sports & Entertainment, and Grievance & Ethics.
The PUL Constitution mandates an annual-mini congress, but the Ebola outbreak coupled with logistical and resource constraints have compelled a delay.
