MONROVIA, February 24(LINA) - The House of Representatives Tuesday passed into law an Act to establish an axle law to protect public roads and bridges from rapid deterioration and another one establishing the National Disaster Management Agency of Liberia.

The Act Establishing An Axle Law to Protect Public Roads and Bridges from Rapid Deterioration seeks to help extend the duration of roads and bridges, and is a cogent effort to curtail the fast deterioration of road infrastructure, preventing wasteful spending on roads.

The Act to establish the National Disaster Management Agency of Liberia is intended to enhance national and local capacity to minimize vulnerability and disaster risks, strengthen disaster preparedness for effective emergency responses, according to the Liberia News Agency.

The two Acts were introduced by Lofa County District 4 Representative Mariama B. Fofana on November 11, 2014 and turned over to the Joint Committee on Transportation and Public Works and Rural Development and the Joint Committee on Internal Affairs and Ways, Means and Finance by Plenary.

Plenary passed the two instruments into law Tuesday following the reading of the Joint Committees’ reports by Deputy Chief Clerk J. Sayfuarh Geplay.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has forwarded the two Acts to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
