MONROVIA, February 24 (LINA) – The Bureau of Communication at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism has halted the registration of all new media entities.

The Ministry’s decision is partly due to the deliberate refusal on the part of some media institutions to adhere to their annual registration procedure with the Ministry while others are operating without permits.

The Bureau sees these acts as a flagrant disregard on the part of such media outlets.
The warning was contained in a communication issued by the MICAT in Monrovia on Tuesday.

The Ministry informed all media institutions that the statutory period required for registration, which is the first two weeks in January of each year, has expired and is urging delinquent media houses to comply between February 25 and March 10, 2015.

According to the Director of the Bureau of National Communications, Agatha T. Thompson, no media entity who fails to adhere to the Ministry’s order will be granted operational permit until the next statutory registration period, which will be in January of 2016.

The National Bureau of Communication at the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism is statutorily responsible to register all media entities, printing presses, advertising firms and cable entities operating in the country in keeping with Chapter 31.8 of the act that created the Bureau.
