MONROVIA, February 24 (LINA) -About 10,000 health workers in the private and public sectors will shortly undergo training in Infection Prevention Control (IPC), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has disclosed.
Already 7,000 healthcare workers in the 15 counties have received training in IPC since the outbreak of the Ebola virus, according to the Chairman of IPC at Ministry of Health, Dr. Catherine Cooper.
Cooper made the disclosure Tuesday when she addressed the Ministry of Information daily Ebola press briefing at the ministry in Monrovia.
According to Cooper, the training will prepare health practitioners in advance for future disease outbreaks, adding, “We want the practice of the IPC to remain an inherent part of our healthcare system.”
She noted that the training was also intended to build the capacity of health workers as well as empower them to combat the deadly Ebola virus.
The Infection Prevention Training was established in September 2014 under the leadership of the Ministry of Health to support IPC needs and other priorities outlined by the government to strengthen the fight against Ebola.
